This engagement photoshoot in Howth was as windy as it was fun! We were delighted to meet Emily and Jacob and share in part of their Irish adventure ahead of their wedding. They were both so full of life and love, and it was clear to see that they were head over heels for each other.
They had travelled a long way from home (and for the first time outside the US), so they really made the most of their time by touring all over Ireland. And what better way to mark the end of an adventure than with a fun photoshoot together in Howth!
Located on the outskirts of Dublin, Howth is a picturesque fishing village that offers some of the most breathtaking scenery in the east of Ireland. The air is filled with the scent of saltwater and the sound of lapping wave and rocking boats.
A Windswept Howth Engagement
Howth can be gusty even on a fine day, but the wind really held nothing back this time! Wind and rain rocked Ireland the week Emily and Jacob came to visit. However, their luck kept them dry and happy throughout their adventure on the Emerald Isle. We waited out a downpour to meet the pair – thankfully they brought some Texas sunshine with them and there was no rain on our parade!
We began in the harbour, walking along the east pier to enjoy the broad horizon, tumbling waves, and wheeling sea birds overhead. The gentle jangling of the docked boats brought a peaceful, idyllic feel to Howth as we strolled, took photos, and enjoyed getting to know one another.
Along the pier, we captured some truly stunning shots of them with Ireland’s Eye and Lambay Island behind. The colourful sky and the lively, jumping waters were the perfect complement to Emily and Jacob’s engaging and joyful character.
Atop Howth Summit
We drove up to Howth Summit together for the next leg of their engagement session as the sun began to sink. Atop Howth Hill, one can bask in the evening light and drink in the gorgeous view of Dublin Bay that stretches out for miles. Howth Hill is one of our favourite walks, and is of course an excellent place for photos too!
Emily and Jacob were so excited to take in the sights and breathe in the fresh Irish air – and there was plenty of it! The wind did not let up, but we embraced the weather and had a great laugh. There was not a straight hair in sight!
Why Have an Engagement Photoshoot in Howth?
One of the best things about Howth is that it offers a wide variety of backdrops for photoshoots. There are quaint shops and cafes, rugged cliffs and seascapes, and charming streets and alleyways. It’s a place where you can find the perfect spot for any type of shoot, whether it’s romantic and intimate or fun and playful.
If your wedding on the horizon, doing an engagement photoshoot in Howth is a great way to:
- Get used to being in front of the camera (and working with us);
- Have a wider variety of images (with a fun and more casual vibe!) in your final wedding gallery;
- Spend a day out in this lovely coastal town (make a date of it!);
- Create a lasting memory together (like this couple did) and build excitement for the big day!
We visited Howth with two of our dear friends for their engagement session as well and had an amazing time together. At their wedding, we saw their portraits from Howth printed and hung up around their wedding venue as part of their decor!
We took our last few shots down beside The Summit Inn, an icon of Howth Hill. Then we finished off the day with a coffee with Emily, Jacob, and family (who had wisely spent their day sightseeing around Howth).
It was an absolute pleasure photographing Emily and Jacob. Their Howth engagement photoshoot will surely live long in their memory. Not only for the laughs and new sights, but the photos they will hold on to forever.
We wish Emily and Jacob a long and happy life together, and an unforgettable wedding this year! Thank you both for sharing part of your love story and Irish adventure with us.
One of Dublin’s Hidden Gems
If you’re looking for a place to spend a day trip in Ireland, Howth should definitely be on your list. Some of the key attractions include the Howth Castle and Gardens, the Martello Tower, and the Baily Lighthouse.
If you enjoy the great outdoors like us, the Harbour and Howth Hill make for a perfect hiking loop. And if you’re a foodie (and hungry after your hike), be sure to stop by one of the local fishmongers or seafood restaurants to sample some of the freshest and most delicious seafood in the country! We cannot emphasise this enough 😉
If you’re planning an engagement session, or just looking for a beautiful place to explore, we highly recommend Howth!
